The word Satuit means cold brook. The native inhabitants of these lands were describing the small brook that flows into the inner harbor where Bapa and I began another sail earlier. Around 1640, the town name became Scituate as we know and love her today.

I met Bapa at the dock and we were underway in a few short minutes. The harbor is slowly becoming less dense, as boaters regularly pull their vessels for the pending Massachusetts winter, when that brook, and all brooks, will indeed be cold again. It was also a Monday, so most of the traffic we saw on the water was composed of commercial fishermen. I took the helm after about 30 minutes, and boy do I love sailing STARA with Jim. Last week, the wind direction made our return to the inner harbor and the dock a bit of a challenge. It took us 13 tacks to get there. We had a favorable wind and a rising tide today, and we only had to tack once to get home. What a lovely sail – thanks Dad!

The Montauk Daisies are preparing to bloom soon! You can see significant progress in just three days!

Charlie wasn’t herself this morning, and didn’t want to walk far. She literally refused to go any further than this house, which is only about a third of a mile from our door. Her refusal gave me a chance to take a photo of another house name I love. It is owned by the Mohr family.

They, like me, obviously love the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. I wrote about a very special walk that Stacey and I took there in an earlier post here on this blog. See “Doolin – the walk 7/9/23”

September 16 is a special day. Especeially in 2025. Sean would have been 60 today. Chip passed 3 years ago today. I hope they say hello in heaven while we remember them. They were good men. Maggie went to visit Sean, and Mom & Dad. Happy Bday Sean!

I decided to take a paddle on yet another beautiful day. It was very peaceful on the water and I enjoyed seeing some boat names I like again. Sean graduated from Notre Dame in 1987, the same year I graduated High School. I know he would have loved this one.

As I headed back to Lighthouse Beach where I put in, I saw my favorite name heading home. 😍

MISS EMILY

Both Chip and Sean were meat and potato gentlemen, so I celebrated them by grilling those for dinner. Cheers to Sean Ryan O’Connor and Richard Dow “Chip” Muncey.
