On Sunday, we celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage for Jim and Mary Ferrier. They continue to be a true inspiration to their loving family and countless friends. Over the years, they have taught us so much about love, sacrifice, friendship, and teamwork. Their unwavering commitment to one another is a beautiful example of what a lifelong partnership can be.

Congratulations, Mimi and Bapa, on this remarkable milestone as you edge ever closer to six decades of life together. We are grateful for your example, proud to celebrate you, and blessed to share in the memories you’ve created along the way.

Before golf on Sunday, we looked for a good breakfast in the sleepy town of Gullane near our fantastic AirBnB. Two swings and misses had us discouraged, but Bapa came to the rescue again as he discovered that the course we were playing served breakfast. After some quick preparations for a full day out back at the pad, we headed towards Kilspindie Golf Club to see what kind of nourishment we could find.

We knew we were at least in for a definite treat on the links as we drove and walked past a few of the holes on our way to this historic home to many games for locals and visitors alike.

The course was founded in 1867, and we grew excited for our round. But first, we were greeted by a friendly woman who took our orders and even showed us how to operate the complicated looking coffee machine. Bapa and I ordered the full Scottish Breakfast, which included haggis!

I first had haggis when I pulled in to Faslane on a submarine back in 1997. It is the kind of food you really only have to try once while here in Scotland, as I vaguely recall . But as we grow older, our memory fades a little so I decided to try it again. I can confirm indeed, there is no need to have haggis more than once.

Even the locker room was impressive, with direct access to the bar!

Our trip around this incredible course was perhaps my favorite round of the journey. The sun shone all day, and a gentle breeze accompanied us as we made our way along the shores of the Firth of Forth. Every hole offered another opportunity to soak in the stunning scenery and enjoy the experience.

I have no doubt that the stronger winds and driving rain that more commonly visit this coastline can present an entirely different challenge to a golfer’s game. Fortunately for us, both of those conditions decided to take the day off. Instead, we were treated to perfect weather, and we were grateful for every minute of it.

As seems always true in life, pictures don’t quite do things true justice, but still we try.

Mimi and Bapa’s anniversary was also the day that Melissa, Emily & Stacey were due to arrive in Scotland. Stace and Em were first, and we met them at their spacious accommodations right in the heart of Edinburgh before taking a short walk to dinner.

Returning from dinner, we took the obligatory street selfie and went back to the apartment to wait for Melissa’s plane to arrive.

After a very long flight, Melissa arrived and met us along with Lyndsay, Weston, Kathy and OF COURSE – Avery! We had a very nice visit. The travelers were gracious to accommodate us for a while despite some weary eyes!

Get some sleep and we will see you all at Edinburgh Castle on Monday afternoon. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
