We awoke in our home for three nights, Beenbawn Cottage, at 9 AM! I haven’t slept until 9 in at least 20 years! A quick 3 minute stroll found us down on a small beach in a secluded cove overlooking Dingle Bay. From there we climbed a gentle cliff to gain a spectacular view of the entrance to Dingle Harbor. Just wow! We looked down and saw a small group of kayakers, and knew we would be in their place soon enough. After a five minute car ride into town, we took a walking tour of Dingle, guided by our trusty book by Rick Steves – I highly recommend both the book and the walk. It led us to cool landmarks and memorials we would have otherwise walked past unknowingly. After a good walk and a nice lunch at Anchored Down, we joined our group of 12 total, with 2 guides, for a paddle of “the harbor”. I put that in quotes because we found ourselves beyond the harbor in the ocean swell, and in the caves beneath the cliffs. It was awesome! Stacey and I were on a double kayak, and we really loved it. 3 hours went by in a flash of rain and waves that truly felt good for the soul. We returned to the cottage for hot showers and dry clothes before venturing back to town for a walk and dinner. Stacey craved a burger, and we found a good one at Murphy’s Pub down near the pier. Our cottage host Maureen had recommended Nelie’s Pub to see some Irish Step Dancing, so we swung in. What a treat! Young and old danced happily together, in complete coordination and unison. It was a joy to watch. We returned to the cottage and walked down near the cove to see the sun set in the sky over Dingle. Magnificent. On our walk home, we ran into Maureen taking the horse Grace and dog Teddy for a stroll. A full and lovely day on Ireland’s Dingle Peninsula. 🇮🇪
