We spent a little over 12 hours in Grand Canyon National Park today, experiencing sensory overload at every turn. You just can’t take enough pictures or look in another direction often enough to capture it all. It was a clear, crisp day that matured into a clear crisp evening under a full moon. The Rim Trail afforded us about three miles of easy, slow walking with panoramic vistas every single step of the way. For any of you fortunate to have been here, I’m sure you’d agree that words and pictures simply can’t adequately describe the awesome beauty. After our walk, we settled in to the dining room at El Tovar Lodge for a delicious meal in an amazing atmosphere. We took our time and enjoyed the leisurely pace. Following lunch, we lucked upon a Condor perched on a flat rock less than 80 or so yards from us, seeming to enjoy the view as much as us. What a rare treat! At 5:30, we joined a group on a guided sunset bus tour that ended at Mohave Point where we watched the sun dip beneath the canyon’s rim on the distant horizon. All of the colorful cliffs and walls morph into deeper oranges and reds before seeming to turn blue when the sun finally vanishes. If you have the means and the time, see it for yourself someday. The “ice cream on the cake”, as Melissa says, came as we were leaving under a full moon. We took one more walk to the rim of the canyon and peered out to yet another display of colors reflecting off those magnificent rock walls. The last picture in the gallery below is a view of the canyon nearly two hours after sunset under the light of a gorgeous full moon in a cloudless sky. WOW. 🏜️🇺🇸🏜️
