Melissa and Ryan have been very welcoming, allowing us to stay in their new home here in Santa Cruz for the week. Monday was a nice day with no commitments, and we took a leisurely walk downtown along the boardwalk. It was early, and nice to stroll amidst the empty amusement park rides. Most of them are definitely classified as “younger me” rides, so I was not at all disappointed that they weren’t yet open! Later, Stacey and I walked along Seabright State Beach and were amazed at the amount of sea glass we found. Neither of us remember such a great haul since we walked Lovers Point in Monterey a lifetime ago when I attended the Naval Postgraduate School. I’ve included a picture of our treasures below. Our dinner at The View sure did include a great view! Yesterday, we dropped Ryan at Stanford to teach a class and walked around campus. It is huge and beautiful! Our timing was great, as we got to see the Cardinal host Texas Tech at Sunken Diamond baseball park. The Red Raiders got the best of them to split the mid-week series, but day baseball under sunny skies is enjoyable no matter the score. We arrived home last night to a delicious home cooked meal prepared by Melissa. The salmon was SO good! Tomorrow is a special day on the Monterey Peninsula that we are all looking forward to!
