A walk that includes salt air and a view of salt water is my favorite. It is so special to Stacey that her license plate expresses this love – BCH WALK. Our day again began with a nice stroll along Sand Hills beach accompanied by Charlie. The September sun and pleasant breeze continue to grace us with their presence. While we did not find any buoys this time, some driftwood was pocketed while breathing in the smell of the sea.

There is a distinct sound as the waves retreat from the shore, passing over and through the rocks as they do. Listen closely…

The sound of Scituate waves

After our walk, we packed up the car for a day trip to Onset to visit the O’Brien family in their new home. We hoped to lend a hand with a few chores around the house before walks, naps, and dinner! We were there in just under an hour after a pleasant drive that revealed noticeably changing foliage on the trees. Dave and I focused on outdoor activities, and ones that required some heavier lifting. One job was to move the gates to this fence so the doors swing in rather than out. We were successful, mostly because Dave had thought it through well and we had the right tools!

Got an outie, wanted an innie

We moved refrigerators and air conditioners while Sara and Stacey focused on the interior. Hopefully we helped make progress! Of course, there was plenty of time for visiting and telling stories about prior moves and beloved homes of the past!

Onset deck stories

Sara made a scrumptious tomato pie and Dave grilled hot dogs for lunch. It was perfect fuel for another walk that included salt air. Also included was a much better view of the maturing foliage at a lovely pace.

The colors of Fall in New England

Onset village is about a mile from casa O’Brien, and it is lovely. I found the new Onset sweatshirt I was hoping for before making our way across the street to the waterfront for a selfie and a seat with a view.

Back at the house, we enjoyed a delicious bowl of popcorn that Sara made with their genuine popcorn maker! It is AWESOME – movie theatre deliciousness. After that, Sara & Dave asked me if I could test the couch to ensure it was nap friendly. I obliged. Sometimes you have to do those difficult things for family. 90 minutes later, I let them know the couch was working just fine. Our reward for a hard day of work was dinner out!

Warren’s Harborview in Wareham overlooks the Wareham River, and is spectacular. It opened only in January of 2025, so it even had that “new car” smell of fresh cut wood. Mmmm! Congrats again to the O’Brien family on their new home in Onset! 🏡

Tuesday was mostly a down day, with simple errands to run. On our morning walk, we enjoyed again seeing the progression of the Montauk Daisies. Some are coming into bloom while others are already loud and proud here by the ocean.

After so many walks on the beach and the needed rain of late, Charlie was ready for a bath. She is good, but goes go a little crazy once she is out of the tub. Here she is after a session of running around to try to dry off more!

A clean Charlie girl

I was also in need of some personal grooming, so I went down to Rocco’s for a haircut. I truly can’t remember the last time I was in there.

Walkins welcome!

On my way back to our cottage, I was behind a somewhat familiar sight. In the passenger seat of the convertible in front of me, I saw an English Springer Spaniel enjoying the ride on a pretty day. My Dad loved the breed, and had several companions over many decades. Though Dad’s ride was a bit more modest, I thought of him as I enjoyed my view too.
