Our first two-night stay came just outside of Dublin in the Howth area. It was a welcome treat knowing we wouldn’t have to pack everything up again on the very first morning. We had “solved” the coffee crisis in Mooncoin after discovering a fresh bag of grounds in the refrigerator and a French press in the cabinet. Our Howth abode also came equipped with a press, but this time we were missing the coffee. Fortunately, that problem was easily rectified thanks to a Lidl less than a mile away, and normal morning operations were quickly restored. ☕️😄
When planning our 🇮🇪3GIS🏴 excursion, the only request to play a specific course came from Jim. He suggested that we make time for Howth Golf Club, perched high above Dublin Bay. WOW, did he get that one right!
Howth is one of the most scenic courses I have ever played. Around every corner, from every tee box and every green, we were treated to breathtaking views of Dublin Bay, the surrounding coastline, and the Irish countryside. It seemed that every hole offered a new postcard-worthy vista. More than once, I had to remind myself to focus on the golf rather than simply stand and admire the scenery.
If you’re fortunate enough to find yourself in this part of Ireland with your clubs in tow, make sure Howth is on your list. It is a truly spectacular place.

The golf itself did not disappoint either. Bapa put together the steadiest round of the day to claim the Ireland leg of our competition and move back into the overall lead. He now carries a one-shot advantage over Pat as we head across to Scotland, while Ryan remains well within striking distance with plenty of golf still to be played.
Adding to the enjoyment of the day, we all walked the course using electric pull carts, which made the experience even more relaxing. We also discovered that Howth was well prepared for thirsty golfers, as a fresh supply of kegs rolled in during our visit.

Before COVID, Ryan and Melissa visited Dublin and raved about the Musical Pub Crawl. Stacey and I took their advice during our 2023 trip and loved it, so knowing Bapa would enjoy it too, we booked tickets for Friday night.
Ryan once again handled the logistics, working out the commuter train schedule so we could leave the car behind and avoid traffic, parking, and city navigation.
As much as we enjoyed the golf, we were ready for a different kind of Irish entertainment. The mix of music, storytelling, history, and a few well-timed pints promised the perfect Friday night in Dublin.

Our meeting point remained the Ha’Penny Bridge Inn, and we were welcomed by the bartender Vincent as we walked in. He was a friendly gentlemen who even welcomed us behind the bar for a group photo!

Steven led the evening with his guitar and beautiful vocals, while Kevin accompanied him on the fiddle. Together, they shared incredibly informative historical facts and engaging stories about Ireland’s rich musical traditions and influences from beyond its shores. Their performances were outstanding, and the way they seamlessly blended music, history, and humor kept the entire group entertained from start to finish.

Bapa brought his Whoever Shows Up (WSU) shirt, and the lads were graceful enough to pose for a legendary picture.

Ryan was even asked to take a turn playing the harp for the last song of the night and did an amazing job. What a night we had celebrating the Irish tradition of good music with good company making great memories!

Onward to Scotland! 🏴
