A rainy Thursday was followed by a spectacular Friday. We took advantage of the weather to get out on the water. This would mark the final run of her 40th season for STARA, as we planned to haul her and put her back in the yard. Ryan and Bapa would have that honor, while Stacey and I joined them with our preferred paddles in hand.

Before we got on the water, preps were made for the haul out of STARA. Bapa has done this a few times, so the rest of us truly represented the support staff.

Another preparation was needed before we got out there. Last week, after a run in the kayak, I noticed that the drain plug was missing. I went to the marine equipment store and tried several different options. I struck out with all attempts. This kayak is a bit older, and the hole for that drain plug is not threaded. I explained my predicament to Stacey in detail. While I thought her eyes had glazed over during the explanation, it turns out she was thinking hard. She suggested that a wine stopper might do the trick. I chuckled at first, but admitted that if it fit perfectly, it could work. Guess what?

We have seen the harbor steadily become more free of boats, opening her up to cleaner runs. Of course, there are some working boats that will keep venturing beyond the channel, and well beyond the break wall to continue bringing us all the fresh seafood we love. MISS EMILY is one of those Fishing Vessels, and she certainly has my FAVORITE name. In the picture below, you’ll find her at her berth. Look beyond her to see STARA coming our way with the boys onboard.

It was another fantastic paddle on a gorgeous Scituate day!

As I noted, today was haul out day. The same was true for many other boaters. Some, like us, were fortunate that it could be done with relative ease. Others require help and the right equipment!

On a smaller scale, the same was accomplished by Ryan and Bapa using just a little brute force. STARA will be put away on Hazel ave, anxiously awaiting her 41st season in 2026!

We’ve been tracking the progress of the Montauk Daisies as they steadily come into bloom throughout Scituate. It has been wonderful to watch their progress, and to feel the gradual coming of Fall. The Ferrier home on Hazel is looking lovely as we progress towards October.

We celebrated the end of the sailing season with Maria’s pizza followed by a truly AMAZING apple crisp a-la-mode thanks to Mimi! Scrumptious 🥧🍎

Sox clinched a playoff berth Friday night with a walk off triple in the 9th inning. Life is good as the boys head to Fenway on Saturday, 2 September! ⚾️🇺🇸⚾️
